Mechanical engineering support for hardware teams

I help hardware teams develop a rough mechanical idea or improve an existing design so it is easier to build, assemble and service. Background: 12+ years of hands-on product development across EV charging equipment, trailers, pumping units, agricultural and special-purpose machinery.

What I can take on

Clearly defined mechanical work packages

01

Mechanical R&D and original mechanisms

Concept options for new mechanisms, linkages, latches and lowering, lifting or locking arrangements, with feasibility calculations and a clear comparison of trade-offs.

02

SolidWorks CAD and engineering documentation

Part and assembly models, sheet-metal and weldment design, and drawing packages at the level agreed for the project — for example concept, prototype or manufacturing-release drawings, with BOMs and revisions.

03

DFM/DFA reviews

Review of an existing design for manufacturability and assembly: fewer parts and operations, simpler joining options including weld-free alternatives where suitable, tolerance stack-ups on critical fits.

04

Prototype design

Prototype definition, design for 3D printing or fabrication, fit and assembly checks, and design iterations based on test feedback. Where and by whom prototypes are built is agreed per project.

How a project usually runs

From brief to agreed handover

  1. 01Brief

You describe the problem, constraints and what already exists.

  2. 02Scope

We agree the work package, deliverables and file formats in writing.

  3. 03Design

Concept options, then detailed CAD and drawings for the chosen direction.

  4. 04Review & handover

Review rounds, corrections and handover in the agreed formats.

Terms

Contract form, confidentiality terms and payment arrangements are confirmed individually for each project before any work begins.

What I don't do

Electrical or firmware design, controls software, certified FEA/CFD sign-off or stamped calculations. For these I work alongside your specialists.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Can you work remotely?

Design work can be done remotely. Prototype and production support depend on the project and its location.

What files do I receive?

Formats are agreed in the scope; SolidWorks, STEP and PDF are typical.

Will you sign an NDA?

Confidentiality terms can be agreed before you share technical files.

Which industries?

Industrial and special-purpose equipment, EV charging hardware, trailers and mobile machinery, enclosures and packaged equipment.

Start with a short description

Describe the part, mechanism or product you need help with.

A few sentences about the problem, the current stage and what you expect to receive are enough to start. Please do not send confidential drawings before confidentiality terms are agreed.
